I'm in the market to purchase a new home Dehumidifier as I'm anticipating a hot/humid summer and wanted to see how many of ya'll has one in your homes and what brand/s have performed best with the least amount of issues as I'm in the market for one.

Whirlpool recently posted a major recall on several Whirlpool,Comfort-Aire and Sears Kenmore models.

We've already hit 99 degrees in Richardson today:rolleyes:

I was expecting that out of you Mike:D But I am serious as the humidity levels can get up there with our Gulf Coast members;)

You know - it can get 100% humidity here outside of DC - and it's not raining!

Anyway - I don't run one in my home - the AC lowers it enough. But my company does install a ton of them. What we install is called a SaniDry - its a heavy duty unit with an air filter in it. Needs to be connected to a drain of some type.

As long as you can drain it off some place - you can put it where ever you want - it has wheels.

Picture below is similar to them - but not exact. Ours are more tall than wide and are off white.
Okay - found a picture of the ones we install -

And oh yeah - as for reliable - we have installed these for the past 3/4 years and have not had one single service call/problem on any of them.

You could call around down there and see who carries them in your area. Not the cheapest units - but one of the best.

We've used the Sears brand (Kenmore?) for the past two summers up here and it worked without a single problem. Can either fill the internal bucket or connect a garden hose to it. Cost was under $100.

Went to central air and found the operational costs are actually less than the dehumidifier. I really don't think that you will be happy with a dehumidifier. Mine only did the basement and that not very well.

we've got a kenmore that's been running in the basement hooked up to the house drains that's been kicking for the past 7 or so years.

It is desinged for a room but it keeps the wet dank basement smell out of ours but you can still tell that it's a bit more humid down there. BTW the basement is aprox 1250 sqft.

We live in SW Minnesota, and have a basement, we use one in the basement and works really good for the entire basement, (like above keeps the musty smell and humidity levels to acceptable levels) Over the years we have bought several... and have found that getting the "Cheapest price" one is the best for us.... wallmart/kmart what ever is on sale. We have a few rental houses also and keep a dehumidifier in those basements also... Where ever you can find the cheapest price, we have had good luck getting them at auction sales and garage sales also.
The one we have in our house now is full of water every morning and every evening ... thats about 5 gals in 24 hours , so it works pretty much nonstop all spring summer and fall. Its interesting to see that some have found that the AC is just as cheap to run as a dehumidifier.
