Looks like my wish list. :thumbs Got it yesterday for free. It's stamped INTERNATIONAL AIR HORNS. What should I use to clean them up? The horns look like steel with minor rust pitting and the ends look like black painted zinc alloy. Sorry about the lousy photos.

Great find Richard. I stripped my Leslie's down with your normal household paint stripper (Dad's brand I think).

This could be a good opportunity to try out some Bad Dog Polish on them new to you horns.

It took about 4 applications to get 90% of 4 coats of paint off.

It is possible they could be aluminum, casted in a sand casting. I think that is how most train horns are made.

It might be a good idea to take them apart and check to see if the diaphrams are OK and if they actually HONK HONK.

Try something like SOS pads on a smail spot and see how it does, it just mite clean them up to where the Bad Dog Polish would do a great job with less work.

I just used some 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper on the horns. It cleaned the tarnish up well and smoothed the surface to a dull shine but there are still small pits.

there may not be much you can do about the pits. you could paint 'em up a real nice color. that would hide the pits if you are going to put the horns out in the open.

Definitely under the truck but as for which way is still undetermined. I like the idea of them pointing backward because of tailgating rice rockets. It really doesn't matter how clean I get them because once installed I'll never see them close up again.
