i have the smaller cab with the rear suicide doors. 6x 8's seperates in the front and 6x 8 in the rear with one 12" sub all amped. the rear seats are folded up so i can carry my tools and material the subbox sits right behind the center console and fires to the rear of the cab. amps are mounted to the box. not the prettiest site but it works and sounds great.

the AMP is only part of the equation....that 10" solobaric will handle
400w/900w (rms/peak) i was driving it w/ a 250w and wanted a little more
(the 250w had thermal shutdown issues when it was cranked).

ive since (those photos) upgraded the rockerford to a 500/1 JL...and im
MUCH happier w/ the thump.

the box (in my photos) is SLIGHTLY undersized to fit the wall/seat section
better...i wouldnt have been able to add a 2nd 10"L5 and STILL had
the proper volume box)

i used the L5 solobaric because the same size speaker in the L7
series required depth that wasnt available (after you mount it in
the box)...as it is the box had to have the rear wall routed out/thin'd
for the speaker to fit !

the 99-03 w/OUT the fold out tray systems have a little bit
more room behind the rear seat....so if someone says something
fits the 99-current crewcabs you better get some guarantees...because
the trucks changed in 03/04 !

im sure it does sound great (lots of volume) but as you point out
theres just not much room...even in the supercabs...youve rendered
your rear seating area un-usable....what works for you may not for
others.

most folks that own a crewcab bought it for the rear seats...and
its not something many crewcab owners are willing to give up !

"plan your install...

your gonna have to cut the carpet away from the back wall (if you
mount it in a crew cab, behind the seat) and you NEED those
vents in the back wall...keep at LEAST one of 'em or youll play
hell getting the doors shut."

Hey Bush Pilot,

You definitely got me thinking on this one just a bit.................can you elaborate a bit more on the relationship between the rear wall behind the seat and vents that allow the doors to close? I certainly don't doubt what you're saying, I just don't understand the rationale behind why it would be so difficult to close the doors. Any light that you could shed would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Jerry

Sorry Jerry...just saw this (anyone else have a problem where
the forum doesnt always show new posts?)

there are TWO vents built into the rear wall of the crew cabs...
I keep ONE and i would NOT recommed removing BOTH...the vents
are there at least in part to let the air outta the cab as you shut the
door.

if you remove BOTH vents, youll still be able to get the last door
closed...but itll be considerably more difficult than if you had even
ONE vent in place.

Hey Thanks A Lot!:D

I'm having a custom amp rack made, and the guy tells me that he will need to cut away a little of the carpet on the rear wall behind the rear seat to make room for the two amps (JL Audio 500/1 & JL Audio 300/4) .
I should be pretty well good to go in this instance, don't you think?

man you are SO gonna love those AMPS...

I cut the carpet (had to basically use a die grinder / whizzer
wheel) on the 2/3 seat side...the carpet is backed w/ something
like fiber glass !

hey while you have the carpet down off that wall (to cut it)...
why not cover the rear wall in something like hush mat or dyna
mat (dyna mat is over priced in my opinion & take more prep
work to install/stick).

regarding the Vents...they stick INTO the cab a bit...
i TRIED like heck to trim mine enough to get my sub box
in but there was NO WAY...i wound up SEALING the vent
(w/ ac/dut foil tape AND multiple layers of duct tape)...

you DONT want that thing leaking....specially if you have some
speaker box or board up against it...i check mine once in a while
and so far so good (its sealed from both sides).

cant wait to see pictures of your set up !

I think if i had to do it all over again <and its ALWAYS a work in
progress> id mount speakers in the rear door 1 Higher and 2
direct to the door....for a amatuer i dont think i did too bad
w/ the rear doors...but i could be alot better.

i STILL wanna add a set of q-logic q-forms
l044K2010.jpeg

the qforms would make it a nice EVEN (4 pairs) or 8 mids & 8 tweeters (plus the sub) :D
i mean wth i have 2 unused speaker channels on the JL e4300 (fill amp)

I wish that "other Bush" was as helpful as you are!

Thanks SO MUCH for the fast response times:thumbs

It's nice to know that I chose 2 good amps...................heard a lot of good stuff about 'em! Sure do thank you for the tip regarding the hushmat on that rear wall:D ; everywhere I can "hush it", I intend to do so!:) I just hope that there is enough clearance back there afterwards that I don't have to touch either one of those coveted vents! Those 2 amps on a carpeted board shouldn't encroach that much on the vents, I hope.............

Darn sure is great to have people that have "been-there-done-that" and are willing to share their experiences:sweet Joining this forum was the best thing I've done since bringing my little girl into this world:D

Many Thanks, Bush!

BUSH PILOT CALLS THIS ONE PERFECTLY.................

Hey Bush,

These amps turned out to be everything you said and then some!:D I don't think I've ever been so satisfied with amps as I have been these babies:cool: Had to make sure that a rock-solid power source was available, so I upgraded the factory batteries to 2 Yellow-top Optimas and complemented the whole setup with a 1-Farad Cap from Rockford-Fosgate (mounted under back seat) ;) Decided to go with the Stealth Box Sub from JL Audio as well. Gotta tell 'Ya fellas.......this is the way a Super Duty is SUPPOSED to sound!:sweet Check It out......
