Hey guys,
I need some assistance please, I just purchased a 1 owner 04 model 6.0 diesel from an individual and after the first oil change I am taking the truck back to the dealer to replace the coolant tank due to cracks and leaking fluid.

2 questions and I'm nervous as I'll get at about head gaskets and the Coolant tube being bad, but I ran an oasis and that was a big reason in my purchasing of the truck. I just dont want to be screwed and will find out more tomorrow about the condition.

The truck is a crewcab 4wd, with 140,000 miles. I drove the truck 500 or so miles before purchasing and noticed no white smoke on start ups or accelerations, and the previous owner ran no chips or mods.

The next question is does this truck have a plug in cord like my old 7.3 had. I looked and could not find anything and the truck came with no manual.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks

Your block heater cord will be behind the passnger side fog-light...if it has one.

Need more info - are you refering to the degas bottle?

It's no big deal to change the degaus bottle. Mine cracked earlier last year, did it myself.
No use in paying someone else to do it.

Oh, welcome to SDD

yes the degas bottle, I took truck in to dealer today and the diesel tech looked it over and found not leaks after pressure testing, ??? I was told a recall is out on the degas bottle with new fill marks and if mine is overfilled it will spew out the top.

He said run it and if I have a problem it will show up... idk what to think, etc.. other than to run it and just be happy.

thanks for all your help and replies.

yeah... about that.. my brother's 05 xlt Fx4 doesn't have a block heater.. or at least it's not where it's supposed to be.. I thought these were a "must have" for diesels??? I can see where the cut is in the plastic fender well just above the frame by the passenger side tire.. where the block heater is "supposed" to come out and run along or on top of the frame until it ducks in behing the passenger side tow hook and fog light...

I was just wondering if it was possible for his truck NOT to have one... mine is an 05 lariat but other than that they are exactly the same... and mine is right where it is "supposed" to be.....

Oh and im sorry for hijacking the thread.. sorry

the way I understand it is where my truck is built or what part of the country it took delivery in the warming "cord" was not an option on that truck.

This is just what I was told today the diesel mechanic.

who knows but I did read on here yesterday someone using a marine boat adapter and splicing into that cord and running a timer to turn "heat" on to aid in cold starts.

not sure but thanks for all the replies.
