hard starts and smoke

my 99 550 will take about about 15mins to get started on cold days if parked out side. once you get it started it starts fine for the rest of the day.

once it is started it blows a white smoke screen for about 10 minutes and runs really rough but once the smoke clears out it runs perfect and doesn't smoke the rest of the day.

just wondering if this is normal or something to worry about.

1st guess: Sounds like a glow plug system problem. Check your relay to see if its sending volts to the glow plugs.

i'll check into that.

it if cycle the wait to start 3 or 4 times it starts then dies after a secound or two. i should of added that to the first posts.

And check the glow plugs to make sure they all have resistance. If one or more are open (no resistance) then change them ALL out. Use only Ford or Beru glow plugs. Others are junk.

i'll check them also when i get her home right now she's still at work waiting on me to get the 900 gallon tank off.

guess i should of tacked that stuff on the repair order before i bought it but hey she got a full survice a new air box and power steering pump that they paid for

Mine truck starts fine but smokes for about 5 minutes, Is this a turbo smoking or the engine?

the smokes pure white with no odor at all but it pumps out enough that you cant see the truck at all depending on how the winds blowing

I believe its oil smoke.....
