I'm not sure the reason but in the Republic of California I have a 2001 with auto no cat. Sticker under the hood states "Non Catalyst" a friend has a 2001 with manual with cat. Sticker states "Catalyst".:dunno Are emissions really that different?:dunno

In a van down by the river...
When I used Castrol-branded engine degreaser to clean my engine, the printing on the sticker that would have had any info on it regarding the presence- or non-presence of a a catalytic converter disappeared... Gosh and golly, the 4" exhaust I put on doesn't have a cat so I guess it must not have ever had one. Of course, that catalytic-converter shaped piece of steel in the garage must have fallen off of Maggie's car....

I have a non cat 2001 6sp. I always thought it was because of being an F-350.:dunno
Mine is a 95 F-350.........came factory with a Cat. I just dont get it:confused:?

So far we have discussed that it may be attributed to the 6 speed being the reason there is no Cat, but I see some guys with autos and no Cats:confused:, some say its the F-350 that doesnt have a Cat, but mine does:confused:. Emission standards surely had to have been stricter in 2002 than they were in 1995 when my truck came off the line, yet I'm catted and some of the newer ones arent:confused:. Irregardless what the 7.3 was put in (F-250/F-350/auto/manual tranny) its still going to exhaust the same compounds to the atmosphere...... I'm getting more and more cornfuzed the longer we discuss this:confused:.

But your truck came with singles, no IC, non-wastegated turbo right? IMO that would need a cat. Then later programming got better and no need for it to pass emissions in some cases.:dunno I.E. manual that can get lugged with 3.73's and blow smoke easily in 3rd gear at say 30mph. My truck smoke in stock form. Intake cleaned alot of it up. Then a 350 with 4.10's and stickshift can get on top of the turbo easier and get the air it needs to not need a cat.:dunno

I really don't know now.
