I am not too sure if it is cheaper to operate. The gas motor will get about 30 to 50% less mileage than the diesel motor.

Dave

Yes that's true. I think the article mentioned something about them trying to get the fuel economy as close to the diesel as possible, but that will be hard to do.

Of course, the "system" could make diesel prices drop below gas prices and this truck wouldn't be necessary, except for those who preferred gas engines.

Agreed. For towing and hard work, its hard to beat a diesel. I mean you can get a lot of miles out of a gas motor but there are a TON more diesels out there with hundreds of thousands of miles on them versus not as many gas motors with the same amount. I think EVERYONE has tried gas motors as hard working motors and you just sacrifice too much. Take the v10, has decent power but sucks on gas. I think the 5.4 is a better motor in the mpg department. Diesel is the way to go. Look how much of the u.s. uses diesel to heavy haul. Diesel trains and 18wheelers keep it goin.

I think it would make a good short haul delivery truck. Instead of idleing for hours a day like diesels do it could save fuel by getting shut off when not on the road. Just a thought.

It'll have it's niche, they aren't going to be widespread but think back a few years it was not too long ago that there were MD trucks available with big block gas motors. The F-700 series comes to mind. When I lived in GA there were tons of pulpwood trucks running gas motors beat to heck and still running 25+ years later.
