Driving my truck home today and all of the sudden it starts idleing really ruff, but smooths out when I start driving again. Then all of the sudden she shuts off and will not refire. I noticed that I can not hear the fuel pump when I turn the key. Where would I find the fuel pump relay? Going to start there, but I'm thinking it's the pump. Any special tools needed to change the pump? How bad of a job is it to change the pump? Thanks!

If you have the 6.0 engine, the fuel pump and filter is underneath the driver on the frame. You will see the FICM which has the pump and filter in one housing. This needs to be replaced. Have you scanned your truck for the codes?? If you have a 7.3 diesel engine, I don't have any idea, but someone will chime in. Fill out your signature so we can all help you better. Go to the USER CP in the 2nd blue line above.

fuel pump on a 7.3 is in the same spot..
right about under your feet inside the left frame rail..
the relay is in the underhood PDC, and would be a less expensive spot to start guessing..

okay- now bigger issues- fuel pump is running. Where do I go from here? I know it is now spark or something along that line. pulled secondary fuel filter and bowl was full and when I tried to start with out filter the cap was pouring fuel so that wasn't the issue.

no check engine light, but I have a Diablo tuner so I don't know if that would effect the engine light. Does there have to be a light for it to throw codes? I don't know about the recall, I bought it used about 3 years ago.

no, it may set codes without turning on the CEL..
there is a recall on the Cam Position Sensors you need to get done
there is also a recall on the cruise control brake switch.

so I'd say from here, you may want to talk to the local dealer about doing both recalls and scanning it for any codes..
the little BS code readers at Pep Boys and AutoZone are not going to read the specific Ford codes used on these trucks..
