I'm in great need of a fuel pump for my 03 f250. It almost left me on the side of the highway, but i managed to limp it home. No so much fun in -30 c weather. Does anybody have one layin' around they are willing to part with , know where the cheapest place to buy or is there a pump I can retrofit in place of the $460 can. fuel pump from the dealer. Thanks

Welcome to SDD!:sweet

Is your fuel system stock? At -30c you might have gelled fuel.

How did you verify that your pump is dead?

The fuel is not gelled, we have a little better quality diesel fuel I have found compared to where I have bought in the U.S. not to far from where I live, that and I always run fuel conditioner in it. It had "froze up" a couple days earlier, or so I had thought, and after putting in methyl alchol and letting it sit for a day in a heated shop I got it running again. But I filled it up with the methyl still in there added more conditioner to it and it and it dies again. I pulled off the fuel line and got my buddy to turn on the key and the pump was pushing a little fuel but it sounded awful. So I'm pretty sure it is the pump.:(

What is the fuel level in your tank?

If it is at or below 1/4 or so, add more fuel to your tank before you pass judgement on the fuel pump. There is an outside chance it may be a problem with the fuel pickup in the tank. If you have a 1/2 tank or more and the fuel pump resumes putting out under pressure, then the pump is OK.

Pulled the fuel pump out last nite and pressurized the tank with compressed air. Fuel coming form the line seemed adequate so just to be sure I blew it out the other way. I put the pump on the bench and tested with 12v power right to the terminals.....pump still sounds awful( so lack of power ruled out). I then hooked up the pump back onto the truck and hit the key. With the outlet side of the pump off the pump looked to be pumping alright except that the pressure would rise and fall off slightly (it's just one of those intermitent things). Pumps on order as of last night, I'm not gettin' stuck on the side of the damb road in -30 c again.
