...Something about the diesel fuel system creates too many "pulses" and the guages end up jumping all over. Is this the case with the powerstroke?....

My original Marshall gauge that stayed under the hood took a dump at about 9 months, the replacement NAPA gauge, zip tied to cowl:D , is about 6 months old. They both pulse at idle sometimes.:dunno

Thanks for the info Bill!:sweet

Could the pulsing be a sticky FPR?:dunno

I replaced the innards of my FPR when I replaced the fuel pump. No pulsing ever observed.

LOL....look at my past posts!

That's my last two steps. I've cleaned the FPR twice, pulled the pump to make sure no crud was on the suction side since I "drank water." Just not sure if I want to go with a stock system yet. I have 108k on the stocker.:thumbs

am i going about this the wrong way?

ultimatly, i want fuel pressure in the cab.

for now, i want to read the existing fuel pressure and then shim and re-read.

is there a sensor on the engine already that i can pull with a obd reader instead? that might be easier to deal with for now.

the pulsing issue i think is related to the pulsing of the injection cycles in the fuel system. we know that there is pulsation, we talked about it in the cackle threads.

if you still have your factory check valves/snubbers in the heads, you should not be seeing the injector pulse on the gauge at the fuel filter. you may be seeing the little spring bouncing all over in the fpr.
when we put in the bypass regualtor the gauge would stay rock steady, unless you got on it then it would drop and bounce as the feul pump struggled to keep up. and when we set it to run past 70 psi it had a real hard time keeping that pressure under any load past 1/2 throttle
but then again i drove all the way to work with zero psi a few times to
i am going to have to got dig out my notes
your hurting my head :D

Antonio for the fuel pressure test port I used a 7/16"-20 UNF-2A x 1/4" NPT fitting to connect up the pressure hose and gauge with.

Bill

Here are a couple of manufacturer #'s on a 90 degree fitting that will fit that port.

4C50X-S & 6801-4-4
