Fuel mileage towing

OK, I know there is another thread regarding this, but I disagree with some of the numbers guys are posting about towing. I tow a 35 ft fifth wheel, loaded at about 12,000 lbs, going from Phx to Glamis, which is fairly flat I get no better than 8 mpg.
Now the real question is what mods have been done to achieve these numbers.
My truck is 2004 6.0 Super Duty, although I just installed a MBRP turbo back system and cat delete.
I am interested in any comments or suggestions.

Jascot, How fast do you tow? I have a 36 ft. Cedar Creek at about the same weight. I only make to about 64mph and fuel mileage here in flat Florida is 13.5 w/o air cond. and 12.8 with air cond....

whats your truck...is it stick/auto, what rear-end gearing, DRW or SRW, cruise on or off, a/c on or off.

towing 7-8k ive seen range anywhere from 12mpg to high 15's...its
all in how fast im goin for me...

we ave 8-9, with the best of 11 mpg, pulling 12.5k TH TT, ave spd 62, auto, SRW, 3.73, 4x4, AC on, no mods, rolling hills with some steep climbs.

pullin a 26' 5er i averaged 10.6 mpg, 7k srw,auto,4.10 ,4x4,with ac on, and plenty of hills

with the 26' gn horse trailer, I get 9-10... with the 26' tagalong camper, I can do 13..

depends on how much weight, how aero the trailer is, trailer tire condition/construction, etc...

Fuel mileage

OK, my truck is a 2004 super duty, 6.0, 4X4, 3.73 ratio, w/ A/C on running 75mph, I have also tried towing at 68mph still no change. Seems that no matter what I do mileage does not change.

Hello Scott;

The only time that I have had to pull my trailer is 15.8 mpg. I get between 18.5 and 18.8 empty. My trailer is about 6000 lbs. I have a late model 06 (April) with manual trans and 3.73 gears. Everything is stock, from the factory. I cruise at 70 mph empty with cruise control, I do not jack rabbit start from a stop sign, and keep 70 psi in the tires. Here the chp keep a close watch on trucks pulling trailers, so when I pulled my trailer it was at 60-65 mph. Since the speed limit is 55 most of my pulling was at 60. 70 mph is about 1950 rpm and 60 mph is around 1700 rpm. So going up hills, I speed up to 65 so I don't lug the engine or down shift to 5th gear and climb the hill at 2000 rpm.
