I changed my own fuel filters. I bought them at diesel filters online Diesel Filters,Additives,brake rotors, and brake pads for Chevy, Dodge and Ford Diesel Trucks

Get a one gallon catch bucket and open the yellow water separator drain into bucket. Take 36 mm socket and remove upper fuel filter (engine side) cover. Let drain for a couple of minutes until stops. Replace upper filter and cover tighten 20 ft/lbs. Replace lower filter 20 ft/lbs. as well. Close drain valve. Important cycle key 6 times 30 seconds each time to purge air. Restart and let idle 5 minutes and check for leaks.

You can do this yourself in less than 30 minutes

The prices you listed are what I see here in NC for the filters and for labor. What I found is that if you ask a couple different parts departments, you will eventually find one that will sell you the filters for less. Here is what I buy mine at, as long as I buy at least three sets at a time, I get them for $49/set. Yeah I'm dropping $150 a pop but those three sets of filters last for 60k miles. As for doing it yourself, it could not be easier. Messy but easy. Safe yourself the money and do it yourself. Hope this helps.

Help with install 08 Fuel Filters

Hello all, tried changing my 2008 SD fuel filters last night but could not get the engine mounted cap off with a 36mm six side socket. I followed the directions in on of these replys but could not get her. Got the module drained but while trying to pop the cap on the engine mount, I ended up splitting my thumb open which needed 13 stitches. Needless to say that was it for the night. I am thinkin someone at the dealer really over torqued the top or there is pressure still built up in the system. What do you all think? Am I missing something? Any help would be great. Thanks

Hey thanks Dave, I might give her a try in a few days. Are you using a 36mm socket? Any other ways of getting that thing off? Thanks.

You can put a strap wrench around it, or even an oil filter wrench, both around the outer rim. Gonna tear it up a little, but it will work.

36mm socket with a 1/2" socket wrench. You can use a 24" breaker bar and that will give you more advantage over the cap. How did you screw up your thumb??
