My truck ate the front wheel bearing today while I was out. Now after $210 tow truck bill it is back home and I am wondering where is the best place to get a replacement bearing? Napa wants to sell the whole hub and it is over $400. Is that the only way to go?

Everyone sells it as a whole hub, and it is the way to go, unless you want to spend $1600. for the Dynatrack conversion...

Tailgunner did, and he prefers his setup.

Don't feel like the Lone Stranger.. my truck ate one in January, and my cost through the shop wasn't much less than that...

The 99+ Trucks have UBH aka Unit Bearing Hubs.

The bearings can't be replaced or removed.

You HAVE to buy the WHOLE hub!!! SORRY! :(

146k on the clock. I found Timken bearings at Autozone for $334 and they are supposed to give me a 10% discount so that is not too bad I guess.

I would still like to do the Dynatrac conversion so I don't have to be suprised like this in the future.

The Ford engineer that came up with this needs the have a hose taken to him for a while until he realizes the error of his ways.

got news for ya... Unitized bearings are nothing new... FWD cars have been using them for over 30 years...
The first full size trucks to have them were the "new" Chevys, back in '88

Unitized bearings is one thing, unitized $350 hubs is another. I would not have a problem with it if they made the hub rebuildable but throwing away the spindle and everything is just stupid.
My Accord has sealed unit bearings and they were $45 if I remember right because it was just the bearing.

Hey - Powerstrokeshop.com has the whole front end kit ( both hubs, seals and ball joints ) for just over $700 I think it was. They are not 'FORD" hubs but aftermarket. I don't know the warranty on them though. Advance Auto sells them also for around $350 each and a no questions asked 1 year warranty.
