I have a 2005 F350 Dually, 6.0. I was noticing in the maintenance section of the manual that I am supposed to have the wheel bearings inspected and repacked on the front wheels at 60K. Can anybody enlighten me on this..... haven't had to do this on previous trucks. Also, what will the approximate cost? Should the dealer do this or can any place do it?

Is your truck 4x4 or 2wd?

It is 2 wheel drive. And no matter how easy, I wouldn't do it myself. I have 55,000 miles on the truck and the book says it is needed at 60,000 miles. I am getting ready for a 5,000 mile trip into Mexico, so I was wondering how important and should I do it before the trip or when I get back (I might be 1000 miles over)...... I was thinking about waiting.

its an easy proceedure...

get one of these...available at just about any
autoparts store...the bearing packer allows grease to EASILY be
squeezed into the rollers...its easy and ALOT cleaner than trying
to do it by hand.

if you can change a tire or brake pads then you can
pack your own bearings.

theres LOTS of examples (w/ pictures on the net):

Well I got it done. They also changed the oil in the differential and serviced the transmission. And then on top of that I put on a set of Bilsteins. So now I am good to go.
