I think to put it in lamans terms JR, the temp of your trans fluid is not causing any damage to anything in the trans at this point. The first thing to go in a high heat situation is the fluid itself, then and only then could damage occur to the trans itself. The fluid will keep damage from occuring,except if it is burnt, old,or low. The royal purple oil is designed to take heat in excess of the regular atf, and you haven't even reached a point where the original oil would begin to break down. That temp is not dangerous, so don't worry. But the water pump, in a extreme case could take out your radiator, hood, trans cooler and lines, etc. STOP worrying about the trans temp, and Start worrying about the water pump now!
