I think to put it in lamans terms JR, the temp of your trans fluid is not causing any damage to anything in the trans at this point. The first thing to go in a high heat situation is the fluid itself, then and only then could damage occur to the trans itself. The fluid will keep damage from occuring, except if it is burnt, old,or low. The royal purple oil is designed to take heat in excess of the regular atf, and you haven't even reached a point where the original oil would begin to break down. That temp is not dangerous, so don't worry. But the water pump, in a extreme case could take out your radiator, hood, trans cooler and lines, etc. STOP worrying about the trans temp, and Start worrying about the water pump now!

well, i got under there and started looking around today (had to change the coolant and fuel filters). From what i can tell, it looks like the water pump is only leaking from the top right next to the t-stat housing. i had the t-stat housing leaking a while back and got that fixed, but this looks like its coming from the top...but very little.

As far as the trans goes...i checked the fluid and it was barely registering on the dipstick  Evidently, when i changed the fluid, i got more out than i thought. So, I'm guessing that probably contributed to the temp climbing a bit since there wasnt as much fluid to keep it cool. I added a quart and will drive it tomorrow and check again. More than likely...this was my problem.

Sweet! Always start with the cheapest and easiest first. Looks like that solved it this time. You can have the cooling system pressure tested to see if you can narrow the leak down. Could it be a heater hose, or coolant fitting up there?

Basically, im asking this...

Since I have installed the 6.0 tranny cooler, shouldnt I expected my temps to be no more than say 60-70* above ambient instead of 100*? Following that logic, if I do see them closer to 100* over ambient...it could signal signs of trouble?

that's your target, but so many factors go into the equation, I doubt you'll see that result as a general rule... maybe if it's like 55 degrees out and raining...

fix your coolant leak now, before something blows out on 10 on the other side of Katy...

A generic FWIW ? (JR)

(If the leak is not around your thermo area).. under the water-pump, on the casting area where the shaft, it's bushing and seal are.. there's a "Tell Tale Drain Hole". When the seal/bushing wears out.... Coolant will leak from that hole... telling you, the water-pump needs to be replaced. There is no, good temp Fix.

Often.. if/when it leaks from there.. Coolant can/will migrate to all kinds of places.. making you think the leak is a from one of the hoses, a clamp, thermo gasket, whatever.... Example ?: I recently replaced a water-pump for a guy that had coolant leaking from back near the Bell Housing... He had "Chased and Replace" stuff for 2 weeks. PIA ?

Sooo.. After you've cleaned that area..Engine @ Op-temp.. with a Good, Bright light.. look up under there.. If you see any Drips, Leaks or Seeps ? Thats Yer Sign.

um, jr, did you replumb the tranny lines back into the bottom of the radiator when you upgraded the trans cooler?

then theoretically, yes, you water pump issues >could< affect it if you are not efficiently moving coolant through the radiator.

regardless, change your water pump.

yea tranny lines are still going into the bottom of the radiator...or so i would assume...i didnt do any rerouting outside of just hooking up the new lines to fit the 6.0 cooler.

yea...ill be changing the wp as soon as i can. probably gonna take it in...i dont wanna jack with it.
