Hey everyone,
I'm new to the powerstroke thing, this being my first diesel superduty. Anyway I have a f-150 Lightning with the 4R100 trans and got a factory tech vavle body for it. This is supposed to be the better thing to do instead of just the bigger bore line vavle. My question is, would this be a good upgrade for the trans in my F350, or is the line vavle the way to go?

Thanks,
Jason

P.S. if you can throw in any advice on the best mods for better mileage that would be great!

Mileage improvement...the eternal quest.

I added the DIY Tymar style intake and a 4" turbo back exhaust two weeks ago and have noticed a 0.5 mpg avg gain over the last 3 tanks. There is the 80hp econo tune from DP Tuner that is supposed to help. I will be able to give more details on this in a few weeks after I get some data.

I don't know anything about the tranny upgrades/mods. Probably couldn't hurt.

Welcome to the site. It is a great place to learn about our trucks.

Let us know more details about your truck.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can about my truck. I just got the truck, its a '99 F-350 Crew Cab Longbed 4WD Dually with the auto trans. Its only got 38k on the clock! I couldn't pass it up. Its bone stock, but not for long!

The FTVB is a good upgrade for the 4R100, there are several options for firming up the sloppy shifts and the FTVB is one of them. Sonnax Tri-cummulator is another, Transgo is another, then you can also get into deeper stuff if you desire. I would not hesitate to recommend the FTVB though.

Jason,

I recommend giving Jon Faubion a call (Faubioin Motor Sports). He is a Ford Master Tech, a tranny guru, and a great guy. He can build you a custom valve body, or anything to do with a tranny. I just saw 3 of his trannys at work on some 450+ hp powerstrokes this weekend.

Then give Tony Wildman of Total Diesel Performance (www.totaldieselperformance.com) for a custom chip - he'll get you that added HP your looking for.

Enjoy your new hobby/addiction!:burnit

Thanks everyone for the responses. At this point I just wanted to make sure the FTVB would be a good choice, since I already have it. I'm not planning on going nuts with this thing, just want to upgrade a few things...

I you are considering using the one from your Lightening, I would contact Factory Tech first. I believe he has stated before that the Diesel application is programmed different. He does offer a Diesel specific valve body and yours might be able to be altered to Diesel specs. Give him a call first, he sounds like a top notch guy to deal with.

Thats what I was curious about... if there was a difference for the 4r100 in the diesel, since the strain on the tranny will be alot higher towing heavy loads a Lightning would never see. I'll call them up!
