I've been wanting to do this to my truck and done some research on it, the best I can find, you might have to move a crossmember, or modify it for the tank to fit, it will fit between the rails and in front of the axle as far as I can tell. It would be best if you could remove it from the X yourself so you can take pics and document exactly how its mounted, and the differences between an X and your truck, also take any and all related parts to make mounting in your truck easier.

If you do this please, please, please, take lots of pics, and give us a good write up on it, I WILL be doing this to my truck eventually.

Do you mind sending me a PM, and telling me where you found the tank for that price, I looked for a month last summer and found one used one, and they wanted $245 for it, with no skidplates or anything. If you decide not to do it, please let me know, and I'll buy that tank from you.

Trust me this build is going to have lots of pics tank included.

I have also looked around for the tanks and have found the ones from a 550 for around 200 bucks(Grimes in GP).This tank however is a "hook-up" from a buddy at a body shop. I will pick up the tank tomorrow and get to measuring things tomorrow night. My main focus tomorrow is getting the other tank pulled along with the Driveshaft, brakelines and wiring and then get that frame cut in half.Woo Hoo. Should be able to roll it out of the garage around midnight as a shorty.

I'll let ouy guys know what I find.

I posted up in the newbie section What I am building but I'll tell you again cause I like talking about it.

I am building a 2k Reg Cab Short Bed 2wd 7.3l Sport Truck.
I have to shorten the frame 16" between the axles. The fuel tank has to move forward and requires a new crossmember to be fabbed. I figured why not go with an excursion tank while I'm at it. Fab work would be easier since the bed is off the truck as apposed to working under the cab.

Plus benefits of the rear mounted tank include better weight distribution and better traction.

Excursion Tank arrived today....No sending unit and no Mounting straps.:dunno

I guess I get what I pay for. Called the parts guy at Ford and it takes the same sending unit. Now just for a mount.

I did get an email from a guy on another forum who has installed it. He had some pics of it and ran it with his factory tank. He just had his filler over the frame and filled it through the fender well. Not an option for me since it will be almost tucking the rear tires. Still thinking of hiding it in behind the taillight.
