Emission recall 05E16??

Emissions recall and reprogram 05E16.......

Got a letter from the Ford man wanting to do a reflash..errr performance enhancement of the emsission related OBD system.

Anyone done this one yet? If so were there any ill effects.

Recall letter states that the OBD may not monitor the emission system correctly and the check engine light may not illuminate when needed

Further in the letter they state that this is a re-program is for the engine and transmission control modules. What the heck does the tranny have to do with the emissions system??

Oh yeah then they tell me that if I don't have this done then I may not be able to re-new my registration, pass smog/emission test, emissions warranty may be reduced.

I don't need any problems with my truck right now.

05E16? I just had 05E15 done and the truck has just now come back from the realm of the brain dead. Personally I thought the reflash had killed the truck the first day or so and then she came back to life. I think that Ford is blowing smoke RE: the registration unless they provide the recall information to the DMV for each state. I was one of the lab rats for this last reprogram. I'll let someone else do the yeoman's duty this time.

No, just take the plunge, and if YOUR truck doesn't blow up / die / run like a slug etc. then I will be the next one reflashed...ASSUMING I GET A LETTER! I don't live in a smog zone like beautiful metro Atlanta!

Did a little more digging and it's appears that this is a more of an OBD issue than a PCM problem. It sounds like a sensor is/or could be out of calibration or something that keeps the warning light from coming on.

An emissions warning light? They won't be seeing me begging them to reflash the truck for an emissions warning light. But the Atlanta metro has gone big city with those overhead signs as you drive into town on I-85. Every time I drive in it give information about the smog alerts. I lived there 26 years ago before you could see what you breathe. Makes me think of L.A., and I'm not talking about Lower Alabama.

i bet they figured out we got more HP and need to take it back
i agree with richard, my truck was a dead bug on the windhseild then it started running like a man with hot grits on his back
of course mine smokes now, which it never did before

and you know what is friggin weird......? i just re-read my oasis report and it has 05E16B as being done
