Ok, so I have been reading some posts about cleaning your EGR valve. What's it's purpose and benefit of the EGR ? What are the benefits of a delete kit? Should I keep it or delete it if I am out of warranty?
i had a truck in the shop yesterday that i had cleaned his valve about 3 months ago.it was carboned solid.and yesterday it had a chunk of carbon hanging it open causing a no start issue.i advised him that it might be agood idea to do a deleat kit but i try not to install anything that isnt proven to last a long time.and most of the kits i have researched say off road use only.maybe someone can give us a little insight on the longevity of the bypass kit.i know it would help me out also.
I've run a modded up-pipe that prevents exhaust flow into the EGR cooler thus the EGR system. My SCT is tuned to limit the EGR valve function to prevent a CEL or code. It works better than using Sex Panther!!
The benifit of deleating the egr cooler and valve is no more worries of cooler failure and a sticking open valve causing a no start issue.you also lower your egt temps.but deleteing the valve will cause a check engine light.and you will have to buy a tuner to take care of the missing valve.my thoughts are you can leave the valve in when doing the deleat.if the valve is moving to the comanded position the computer and engine dosnt know if it is actually flowing because there is no egr feedback sensor to detect flow.just my thoughts
My EGR experience says there is some sort of feedback by the EGR valve. My '04 would not throw any codes or CEL when the EGR valve was unplugged. When I modded my '06 up-pipe within the first minute of starting the truck the CEL popped up with a code for "Low EGR flow". It's a known fact that codes or CEL will depend on what year truck is running EGR deleted.
