Yesterday, a reserve officer with the Lindale, TX PD left his five month old baby in his parked truck while he was attending a class. He didn't realize the baby was there until later that day, around 330 PM. He's been charged with manslaughter. Here's the article: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/081006dntextlindale.9db3f3a.html

SO STUPID!!!! HOW CAN ANY SANE PERSON FORGET THEIR BABY???????????
Actually this is beyond stupid. In 2003, there were 10 children in Texas who died while being left alone in hot vehicles.

Bring back the "Baby On Board" signs and put them in the front windows!!!

This just proves that just because you're a cop, it doesn't automatically give you a waiver against stupidity.

It was an extended cab ("investigators learned that Petty forgot to drop the child off at day care before he parked his dark-colored Dodge Ram extended-cab pickup in the back parking lot of Lindale City Hall early Tuesday morning, in an area without shade.") Here's the link to the Tyler newspaper that has a couple of articles about it: http://www.tylerpaper.com

I agree, the baby doesn't have to worry about any more pain and abuse. I don't see how his wife can stand by him regarding this.

What is wrong with these morons?!!! How can you be so pre-occupied with your life that you could forget your baby in a vehicle, especially when it is tripple digits? Everytime I see one of these, it makes me ill. How can you take the time to put your child in a car seat with intent to drop the child off, and then forget it completely when you start the vehicle? Then, your wife is totally supportive? Rachel would beat the heck out of me at least.
Something just does not add up in my mind.

maybe he never saw this advisory from teh weather service
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER...SPORTS DRINKS...OR OTHER NON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. STAY IN AN AIR CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON ELDERLY RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS. PEOPLE AND PETS SHOULD NEVER STAY IN AN ENCLOSED VEHICLE OR HOUSE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER OFF EVEN FOR A SHORT TIME...AS TEMPERATURES CAN QUICKLY RISE TO LIFE THREATENING LEVELS...EVEN IF WINDOWS ARE PARTIALLY OPENED. IF OUTSIDE...WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT...LIGHT COLORED...AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING...AND ALSO WEAR A HAT. USE SUN-SCREEN LOTION TO REDUCE POSSIBLE SUNBURN.

and yes my wife would have already saved the courts some time, i would be worm food for sure

Definitely a tragedy:(

I see this as a good topic of discussion in the chatroom this evening so we don't have to vent too publicly here as the word censor might kick on;)

I always have my lockout tools on the ready if a fire/police call goes out for a child locked in a vehicle nearby.

It's another hot one today here in Dallas.
