another question:
By the way, i appreciate all the info from this site!!!!!
What downloaders if any, are easier on the motor. i dont beat on my truck. i would like another 50 hp and like 60 to 70 torque.? I dont want to raise pressures too much? Do they all work the same? They must do power differently? Are any of them less abusive? i know, "my foot would be whats abusive!" I dont beat it. just want a bit more 1/2 throttle power. get on the highway better and more efficient. I want to do as little motor mods as possible thru warranty. any suggestions?
thanks in advance!;) ;)

What do you mean by "downloaders"? Sounds like you want it all; power, reliability, and no problems. The real world does not work this way.

Getting on the highway better takes power. Efficient implies using less fuel. It don't happen that way. The way you get more power out of these trucks is to burn more fuel to produce it. Producing more power will cause more wear on the parts and any detected mod that produces more power will negate the warranty. You play, you pay.:sorry

melmount, I understood your question perfectly. Sorry if some choose not to be helpful at times, for unapparent reasons. Surprising when it's a moderator though. They are usually pretty helpful.

Your question is valid. If you do a string search you will see many, many discussions regarding programmers/tuners (what you referred to as downloaders). I would encourage you to do some online research. You will find that there are many price-ranges for tuners, but none of them cheap. You will frequently find folks selling used ones on EBay...but of course you are taking a chance. I once bought a cheap one that turned out to be VIN-locked, meaning it was linked to another truck.

Superchips, SCT, Banks BullyDog are a few popular brands.

i have the chip mentioned in my sig the quadzilla xzillaraider xzt which is a tow/eco chip they have a feature where you dont get the full pwr out of it unless you just hammer on it i.e. gettin on the highway otherwise it gives some power which keeps your fuel eco decent as where other chips are full on all the time so unnoticeably you are getting on it more than you think. just did this for mileage and i personnally want more now but for your app. it sounds like a reasonable choice oh yeah its like a 60hp chip jsut an opinion

wow i dont have a chip or "down loader"...and ive never had a problem
getting on the highway, empty or towing...

if you want more 1/2 throttle power...push the pedal to 3/4 or full...

Mike -

i agree completely...but if someone is CONCERNED about
how finding a tuner thats "easy" on the motor then maybe they
shouldnt be adding one...

they ALL put your warranty at risk...if you cant stomach that then
you shouldnt be playin that game.

if youre gonna play you DAMM sure better be prepared to PAY...

Don,

I agree, if you are going to intentionally try to bypass the warranty but yet still want coverage when it breaks its your bad however with that said there are tuners, downloaders, programmers (whatever you want to call them) out there that are more intense, harsh, extreme (whatever you want to call it) than other models and I think that is what Mel is asking. If there is one that is nutzo extreme power and has a reputation for stretching head bolts, blowing gaskets or eating turbos he wants to know prior to purchase and would probably opt for something different.
