We took a short trip yesterday to keep the fluids flowing in the old truck. It had been sitting for almost a month. We went 109.7 miles and it took 6.1 gallons to fill it up. 17.98 mpg. That is down from an average of 18.5 mpg. I just looked at the outside thermometer and it was at a bone chilling 38 degrees  :lmao

We do not need winter fuel here. But we get it anyway. That is a reduction in mileage of .6 mpg. Is that about what you guys are seeing? Fuel prices have gone down here, because it was $3.379 per gallon down from $3.599 which is nice to see. Sooooo the cost per mile is down,,, so we all should be happy...:D
I still feel bad for the guys having to use their trucks every day to go to work, at the prices fuel is now days. Getting the best mileage I can is my way of snubbing the Arabs... The less money they get from me the better I like it.
Although I am having problems finding American made goods to spend my money on. I went to OSH yesterday to buy a electrical six plug power cord for our Christmas lights, and could not find one that was not made in China. I would pay four times the money, if only I could have found one made in America. We also bought a Dvd recorder,, and you can give up on finding one of those made in America. I am getting off topic,, but us oldsters ramble alot.
P.S. I just looked and our DVD Recorder is a Sony "Japanese" which is also made in China, so the Japanese are also using cheap Chinese labor.

dont need winter fuel here either....paid 3.22 last night (120 bucks to fill
a nearly dry tank)....consider the added cost of having REGIONAL FUELS...
its not worth it.

i typically see about a 1mpg drop in the "winter"...

its all about cheap labor these days....and even though we TRY to buy
quality items that we KNOW will last for years....i still find myself
thinking about amortization of the things we buy....my parents have
had TWO washers and dryer "sets" their entire lives...im already on
my 3rd set !?! I hate buying something KNOWING its not gonna last
for ever.

I am with you on American made. My dad was just asking where he could get an American made toaster. He is stuck with the cheap crap that breaks right away. Not cheap when you have to buy ten.

Whenever I see cheap Chinese stuff (crafts, stuffed animals, etc.) I wonder what must be going through their head when they are making it. They barely make enough to get buy making stupid trinkets we will throw away.

I don't need blended fuel up here either, I can run straight #2 with a good anti-gel additive and never have a problem.

The best part is when I get calls from farmers that have gelled fuel systems, and they are running blended fuel... I can make a good case for still running additive, helps the sales out a lot.

The problem I have with blended fuel is you never know when somebody is gonna mess up and blend it wrong, resulting in gelled fuel.

Yep, buy American made stuff, Ford trucks, Snap-On Tools, and umm, ooh the VW Beetle is made in Mexico :sorry

:D

I agree guyz. we don't need Winter Fuel but we get it anyway. I think it's because the whole Industry shifts to winter fuel to cut transportation costs. But I wonder if the BIG users, like the Rail-Roads (?) >HAVE< to use Winter Blend ? Or is it just us consumers ?

Seems like everything is Made to fail, at some point these days. Recyclable instead of Long Lasting. No body Repairs anything anymore, we Replace it.

My Dad has a Frigidaire, refrigerator he bought, from the Company Store, in 1958. Has it out on his Deck. Keeps Beer & Soda in it. Everytime we vist, at some point, he'll point at it and say: Joe ? Its still here, and it Still works. Far as I know, it's never been worked on.. Just Cleans it now and then.

We've been married 40 years and had 4 Refrigerators. Sup with that ???

Oops.. I'm do'n the Maxtor.. Oldster Ramble.

Rail roads use the same stuff we put in our vehicles. Red dye added to help find those fuel leaks.:D

We need the winter furl here, and it means 1-1.5 per gallon. Fuel STILL hasn't gone dwon here. $3.59-$3.79 depending on the station.

And this might cause a war, but "Buy American" is a myth nowadays. Open the hood of our "American" Fords, and look where all the parts are built. Sucks but it's true.

Yep. Getting harder to find Made in USA goods. Can't buy Levi's anymore that are made here. Everyone uses foreign parts to a certain degree. Harley-Davidson is the one that irritates me the most. I have a hard time seeing or reading another flag waving advertisment from them with all the japanese made components. And before I get flamed, I'm a long time owner and fan.

I went to VA this week and fuel prices are all over the place. I paid 3.29 at one place and driving down the road 3 blocks away you see it at 3.09 a gal. And they were both BP stations thats nuts. The funny thing is I got better fuel mileage after I put the winter fuel in. Going up I got 18.6 mpg running at 75-80 mph going about 740 mile per tank full. On the way back I was getting 21.2 mpg running 70 mph in VA. hit NC ran it up to 80 mph and thats filling up in Northen VA. topped off in GA/FL line. Go fig. should have been the other way around, I'm stunped on this one.
