wow, just logged in to see all these responses! I appreciate the input. It is as dismal as I was afraid of. I also want to avoid private school expense so some public district will be a must. We had hoped to live near Lake Highlands for an easier downtown commute. I guess I could still look in that area but make sure Im in the Richardson district.

Do any of you in the burbs work in downtown? I remember living near the lake but working at Beltline and the toll road it it taking every bit of a full hour to get there. I sure do not intend to get myself into that kind of run again.

Thanks again!

There's DART light rail that goes from Plano into downtown Dallas with plenty of park n rides along the line, the nice one is Gerorge Bush(in Richardson) with plenty of shaded parking. Justin(Police Stroker) may chime in since he's a DART PD officer and may have more info.

I would not paint DISD with such a WIDE brush.

You know some of the TOP schools in the USA are in DISD!!!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12532678/site/newsweek/

1 Talented & Gifted Dallas Texas
8 Science/Engineering Magnet Dallas Texas
18 Highland Park Dallas Texas

I had the privilege to be in the Talented and Gifted program back in 4th and 5th Grade.

Not all the school are bad, some yes VERY BAD! but that is how any BIG City is, and some are VERY GOOD!

I actually attended Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland (class of 96') and it was one of the TOP schools at the time!

Hey Tx,
You could live in Lake Highlands (Richardson school district) and take DART to Downtown. There is a station at Skillman and LBJ. Or over at the Northwest Hwy. station by White Rock Lake. I can't think of the cross street right now, but it is where the old Knights of Columbus used to be.

That is what we would like to do. That KOC building was being demolished and redone by DART when we left Dallas. We liked that area so it might be exactly where we go.

By chance, do you know any zip codes for that area that are part of RISD? I might look at a real estate site for housing.

Kevin - I agree not all schools there would be bad but I dont want to roll the dice. Highland Park would be nice. Im looking at a good job, but not that good. :)
