well, got the call today. Unless the wife pitches a wall-eyed fit, it looks like I will once again become a Dallasite in June. I have been waiting for my upcoming employer to give me an idea of where they need me more and Dallas it is.

Im looking at areas such as Plano, Richardson, Wylie, or Murphy. Anyone with school-age children want to offer opinions of those various school districts? That will be my primary decision driver. That, and how bad of a commute I will have to downtown.

Im looking forward to joining the North Texas club once there.

Peter,

Glad to see you'll be in the DFW area, again. I too lived in Wylie a few years ago and really liked it. My kids were just starting school, so I can't give you too much feedback on the district other than it has a good reputation. Even if they will hire ANYONE to work there! :D
I was working in downtown Dallas at the time. I was not a fan of the drive, but since my hours were 8-5 I was in the thick of the rush hour. Now that the DART rail is out to Plano, you might look into that for your commute. You can just catch the rail and save yourself some money, time, and stress. :2c
Now, I can't say enough about where I live, now: Grapevine. Great school district and I don't think the drive is any worse than Plano. Wife currently works in the Northwest Hwy/Tollway area and makes that drive. But, I understand the desire the live north of Dallas. Very popular area.
Anyway, let us know if you need help moving in!:sweet

John, what kind of airport noise do you get in Grapevine? Im not married to any area. I just dont want to roll the dice with DISD. I know there are good schools in it but...

Im open for suggested areas.

went to lunch with the wife. she didnt pitch a fit but she fought back tears. I think she really wanted to be in SA. Oh well. She's tough and says she'll adjust well.

welcome back to the north :D
as far as schools, quitman ISD has 10-13 students per teacher
and all three schools share a collective 1/2 mile on the road....but the commute might be a bit long 2- 2.5 hrs

Where we are located, almost none! We're actually pretty close to the landing path, but they are so low by the time they get to our neighborhood they are below tree line. That being said, you do have "shop" around the airport. There are areas that have noise, but there most are not affected. But, I do believe that most of the towns in NE Tarrant County have very reputable school districts.
I don't blame you about DISD! Stay the heck away. That is one jacked up district as far as I'm concerned.
If you get a day or two off, come down and look around. I'm happy to show you "my" area of the metroplex and my wife can tell you about the drive. She actually worked in downtown Dallas for about 2 years before relocating to the new office.:sweet We can even test drive it during rush hour and you can get a feel for how good/bad it really is.

An early welcome back there Peter:sweet

We reside in the Northeast part of Richardson(stones throw from Murphy,Wylie and east Plano) which in Collin County. It's very nice out here on this side of DFW and have been in this area since June 2002 and don't plan leaving anytime soon.

School wise my boys attend in the Plano Independent School District
You'll fit in just fine with the North Texas PowerStroke Assoc. always can use more OBS rigs in the clan:cool:

I live in Wylie and Work in Garland. I love Wylie and Hear GREAT things about the schools (mine is not yet 3, so no experience yet). I would second the option of the DART train from the Plano area if going Downtown. I avoid Dallas, especially downtown, at all cost. The drawback to Wylie would be that they let guys like Whatabudro and me in. The area is growing quickly. Garland ,just south of Wylie, has almost all the amenities now.

Welcome to the area.
