Note to all who live in a cold climate; when you go on vacation, do not turn your thermostat down to 50 degrees. This is what happens.

I had noticed running water early on yesterday. A neighbor (whom i do not know, behind me over 2 houses) is on vacation. They have a 2-level split home, the water line that runs inbetween the ceiling of the lower level and what is the floor of the upper level that runs to the outside front water facet BROKE inside the wall:eek: They have been gone for days and the water has been running for days. There is 4" of standing water in the lower level, water was running down the window (on the inside) on the front of the house, down along the foundation, around back, down the hill, across my two neighbor's lawns (thru the natural swail for drainage) right into the side of my shed and along my house and down my driveway.

How do i know all of this detailed information about these peoples house you ask. Well i was with the city water/sewer guy, 1 policeman and 3 firemen who broke into the home to shut off the water (and furnace). It was cool to see how the fire dept. brakes (literally) into someones home. They use what is essentially a jack w/ a foot pad on either end and pry open the door jamb and flick the latch open and wham-o the door pops open. They did bust out a window on the back service door to the garage though and used a sawzall to cut the dead bolt on the door leading from the garage inside. I am the one who told them to do that. They had no idea on how to get in otherwise. Seeing their basement made me feel real bad. I hope their vacation was a good one, cuz the house is destroyed.

I used 150#'s of my own salt and these 2 tubs which probably had 150#'s of D.O.T. hiway mix salt. I have been scrapping, chipping, shoveling, salting since noon today. Finally quit about 7 p.m. Daddy is spent.

We have many other methods of getting in a house but they involve disposable doors/windows and for a non-emergent entry, the homeowners might not appreciate us using them. ;)

F350: It would be burnsville.:thanks

Mobey/JV: Fire Dept. went easy on the 'brake' in due to damage already done. Rather than kicking in a door.:sweet

and on my way to go get more salt.
upon review, each tub i had had 150# salt in them. not total... so if i can add that would be: 150+150+150+150=600#
