cooling of for the summer

I bought my truck on 8-06 and i had my a/c recharged before i took it home. during the last year and a half it worked fine but now it don't want to work. I bought a 134a kit to recharge it but it was full so what do i check next? it gets hot in Houston so i need some help to stay cool any suggestions?

I don't know, but could it be a vacuum related problem?

hummmm... mine works fine & im in tomball TOO..

id have to ask WHY you had it recharged....if it needs
to be recharged then youve got a leak where i came from !

overfilling it wont help the situation...youll either over pressurize it
(causing a leak) or itll just leak down AGAIN (if theres already a leak).

make sure the clutch is working and like bush said if you have to add there is a leak the oil doesnt evaporate.

got it from planet ford on I-45 and Louetta it just felt like it wasent cooling enough and i asked to get it checked.. salesman said some was added. i even bought a vent thermometer and it was working fine all summer last year...i checked my fuse under the dash and its good too. when turning the A/C on is there a noticeable noise from the cab? the a/c compressor coming on or do i have to have someone inside turning it on while i stand outside listening to it?

if youre noticing a drop in the ablity to COOL then
its probably got SOME issue <leak down etc>

charging the system is gonna be a TEMPORARY
solution...it might seem cheaper to to this <repeatedly>
but eventually youll be buying some really expensive parts
instead of having just fixed the leak.

you need to put some die in the system and use a freon/gas
"sniffer" to determine where the leak is so you can FIX it.

imo this is a DIY job and you can save ALOT of money doing it
yourself....autozone loans will loan you the tools (except the freon
sniffer) to do the job PROPERLY & you can buy the parts & die
from 'em too.

we did a friends suburban last year....a/c shop wanted 1400
to replace the leaking compressor, evac. the system and recharge it...
we did it for less tha 350 bucks !

Bush does the 6.0L SuperDuties come from the factory with a coolant shut off valve leading to the heater core similar to the Excursion?

I know when the hot coolant is shut off to the heater core helps drop the cold vent temps in the 7.3L's.

I cant remember if the the 2003's had a valve or if it was just
an issue w/ the warm antifreeze leaking past the heater shut
off valve that ford installed.

in 2004 they resolved that.

your point is GREAT though...and its easy enough to confirm
if you have the heater shut-off / control valve...by looking for it.

heres some info on the valve (if someone needs it...04+ years should
NOT require this modification)

*There are a few 6.0L equipped models with an optional ATC
(Air Temperature Control) system. These trucks do not need this modification.
To know if your truck is equipped with this feature, look at the upper heater hose
on the passenger side of the engine and look for a valve similar to the one pictured in
the link below.

My truck has a vacuum valve its gonna be underneath the turbo intercooler pipe on the passenger side. Black cylinder with a hole in the middle. The hose going to it will be light gray with a black female tip.

Checkin the clutch is easy if you pop the hood with the ac running the outside of the pulley should be turning. Bad clutch the outter portion will be stationary.

well i looked and both pulley are turning so i would guess i can rule out bad clutch...it got dark no time to check other stuff will look into it more tomorrow thanks
