coolant???

anyone want to call this coolant? :doh: as i stood and watched blue smoke bellow out of the tail pipe i looked down to see a frozen dark yellow patch of ice. it then hit me, "is that coolant".

p.s. the driveway is nice and salty due to 600#'s of salt.....:eek:

probably condensation dribblin' outta the pipe....blue smoke would be OIL
not coolant <coolant makes steam>...considering how cold it is <where
you might be> id call it steam/condensation from the cold air & warm exhaust.

dont let it get to you...drive it...and keep an eye on it.

if you cant stand it then get a combustion leak tester.

Mine would leave a much larger puddle then that. Just the heat change no worries.

the ice spot was larger, it melted some as you could see in the photo; it was the color (that of coolant) that makes (made) me think it was coolant. would it not be? and why not be concerned w/ that much 'condensation'? it is a little more than to be not concerned w/.

Dave's got a point about the freez point of anti-freeze...although it would
depend how much its diluted.

as for the combustion leak detection...i guess youve got a decision...
live w/ it til it gets WORSE or tear the top end off and go thru it.

have you had the oil sampled lately ? whats that report say ? (if theres
very little coolant in the oil it run it and keep an eye on it)

been like this since last friday. anywhere from -8 to -15 below zero + the windchill factor ~-15 to -30 below zero. :cold 3 i'd say it is cold enough to freeze.

bush: as for the oil sample, it is due in about 1k miles. as it stands now it will be a status quo and i'll wait til the oil sample is done to see what it says.:sweet

well as someone reminded me (wind chill doesnt matter to anything other
than animals).

if your coolant is freezing at -15 you better have it checked...cause
you could be in danger of bursting that radiator or block..

zerex g-05 is rated to -35 @ 50/50 mixture.

yeah, i read the windchill post thing earlier.

this is factory coolant. and to freeze the block or radiator is not an approved situation....:sweet

the point is if it IS contaminated and IS freezing (which is what i am trying to find out by this post -peoples opinions-possibility) then i guess it may have a date w/ the doctor....-mad

-15 shouldn't be cold enough to freeze that coolant. You might be seeing a combination of condensation and rust from the pipe itself.

You seeing any drop in coolant level?
