Im not trying to be cheap. Just trying to get as much tranny for the money that I HAVE.

So after lots and lots of calls and reading Ive gotten just about a price on everything from everyone. Here is a possible scenario Im considering.

New tranny from Ford, then throw on the BTS Torque Convertor and Heavy Duty Valve Body along with Sonnax Valve- Tricumulator Springs Kit along with a heavy duty trans cooler.

I should be able to get this all done for right at $3500. I know, I know the BTS tranny is only $3900. There is also frieght both ways, Id still need the cooler and Id have to be able with what ever they want as a core deposit till I get it back. (Everyone else has quoted over a grand). I figure it would all cost me some where $4500. I dont know about yall but $1000.00 I dont have can help out alot, especially with a new baby.

The BTS valve body is redundant with the Sonnax. The VB will also come with a new valve plate to modify the shifting.

HD Trans Cooler- put a 6.0 cooler in. Its 3 times the size of the 7.3 one.

Is the tranny completely gone?

Could drive there and back for less than $300 in Fuel, not sure how much freight would be.

Plus don't have to mess with Intallation and everything else :dunno

The way it was puking up fluid the other night Id say it wouldnt make it around the block.

And to complicate things I just got a call from a friend. Seems he has a good strong tranny out of an 01 I can pick up for $700.00. No mods. Could look at beefing that one up.

How many miles does it have on it?

How do you know it is strong?

Stock ain't strong that is for sure.

Do it right the first time, or you will be doing it again.

Also, how long you planning to keep the truck?
This would be my decision maker. ;)

I firmly believe in that. However, I also have a budget. And Im stretching my budget to get to the $3500. Im just looking for alternatives. Believe me, if I had the cash Id be sitting in Brians parking lot waiting for my turn. Another thing to keep in mind. Im not hooked up to a trailer everyday and I certainly do not hot rod my truck. I do however want the power and dependability when I need it.

That said, I plan on keeping it a while. Im still working on the KR upgrade and a few minor performance upgrades next year. Nothing radical just exhaust, intake stuff like that.

My best wishes to you then. O1 trans, depending on when it was built have the infamous diode in it. I wouldn't touch an 01 trans unless I know it has been rebuilt. I had one and it was a mess. One day it was fine and suddenly......

See the blurb below copied from here.

The 2001 Models built for August 2000 to March 2001 are the ones with a mechanical diode, all other models have a 34 element sprag from the factory. All Monster Boxes, irregardless of year are built with the 45 element sprag assembly. A mechanical diode is one form of a one way clutch. When the E4OD came out in 1989, it had a sprag one way clutch on the top of the direct drum, and it worked great for 12 years. So Ford in 2001 changed it to the mechanical diode, which didn't work great and after literally 8 days, they realized it was not going to work. The only problem was that all the tooling for the original sprag was destroyed already and it took Ford 6 months to get new machines to go back to the way that they always were. The units built during those 6 months are the diode units. The diode has a different clutch plate pattern, different direct drum and an integral race. To replace one with a sprag, you need to replace all these parts.

You might end up penny wise and pound foolish.
