Clean Diesel Vehicle Tax Credit

For those of you contemplating getting a new tow vehicle ---

I just found out about a tax CREDIT (not deduction) that will apply to the new "clean" diesel engines that truck manufacturers have just started to install as of Jan. 1, 2007. It looks like a buyer can qualify for up to a $3400 tax credit by buying one of these before Dec. 31, 2010. Of course, a tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your taxes and is much more valuable than a tax deduction. See the following links for more information:

I don't think that will apply to 3/4 ton trucks and up. The article mentions weights up to 8500 GVW, which the 250's and up are more than that. The only way this will help is if one buys a diesel car (Mercedes E320, Jeep Grand Cherokee, etc.) or a new half ton diesel (provided they're on the road before this law expires).
