Yep;
You make a good point. Nothing like blowing the doors off a chevy to lower the old blood pressure.

geuss what came back this afternoon
yep the little yellow engine icon

100F outside
70 mph
800-850 egt
15 or so psi

clicked off cruise and just as i slowed down the little yellow engine came on
and yep 0 boost
i gave her some throttle and 0 boost
then all of the suden we had boost again
after that truck HAD superman get up and go
lots of psi on mild take offs

but at 40-45 in od egts lept past 1100 and almost no get up and go, then
yep all of the sudden as rpm passed 1700 the boost was back
made driving in tyler traffic real fun ( speed limits is mostly 45)
so girl goes to see the doc in the am.

robert what are the codes that have been stored (there WILL be
codes since the light came on)...is yours a california truck ?
egr / emissions issues will only turn the light on if its a cal/carb
truck.

does the truck feel like its missing or is the boost erratic (bucking) ? how 'bout smoke ? any ? when ?

if i had to say id guess its egr valve involved (whens the last time
the egr was pulled...inspected / cleaned ?)

your boost issue is severe...if youre getting engine rpms it would tell
me that its not a fuel issue....if i had to guess id say its egr that could
be providing poor data to the vgt and/or ebp solenoid...the vgt/ebp
solenoid will prevent boost from building

yep i pulled the egr this morning it actually came out with very little effort, i used tow 90 degree blades to lift it free and pop it came out
nice thick powdery black soot and very little oily stuff
although i did have one chunk of STICKY crap on the lower valve and the valve seats are pitted pretty good , looks like fretting more than pitting corrosion.
i cleaned it up relubed the orings and vacummed out the egr passages i could reach with a crevice tool and a tube

going to take a test run later when its not so freaking HOT incase i get stuck and have to walk home :rant

thanks

you really should be VERY careful about getting any cleaning
"fluid" or soot in the <seamingly> sealed electrical part of the egr valve...

there are TWO or 3 small holes in the EGR "motor" base...
when i clean mine i tape off the bottom so theres no risk of damaging
the motor portion.

IF you cant scan the truck for codes and its the EGR you can
safely unplug the egr (i had to do it a couple of years ago when i was
towing a car/trailer) to see if the problem goes away.

unplugging it doesnt necessarily PROVE that the egr is the ONLY
problem but it will help give you an isolation & trouble shooting start...

i would HIGHLY recommend replacing the base gasket (its silver/graphite)
as well as upgrading the orings to the ORANGE ones.

theres a gasket kit (7 bucks and change) that contains the base
gasket and the 2 orings...most dealers will stock this item...
