brake rotors on a 4x4

I am replacing rotors and pads on a 97 350 4x4. A friend of mine is picking up the parts and they are giving him the one that just slide on. i have never done rotors on a 4x4 yet. My question is does the hub assembly unbolt some how and the rotors slide on, or do I have to take the hub assembly apart.

if were talking FRONT...

on MINE (different year)...the caliper unbolts and you have to
pull the caliper "holder"...then a tap w/ a hammer and the OLD rotor
will come right off (nothing else to remove)

if memory serves me correct, you have to pull the hub/rotor assembly off together. then you press out the wheel studs and seperate the hub
from the rotor. then reverse the procedure to install....sometimes you can use a hammer and punch to drive out the wheel studs and to install them iusually drive them in the same way and then use an impact gun to finish seating the wheel studs. just use one off the wheel nuts, when doing this....hope this helps....

mine does......the rotor just slides over the wheel studs.

Look at this PICTURE and follow the next TWO after it and you see how
easy this is, once the wheel is off. (in fact if you follow those 3 photos you wont
even have to remove the brake caliper from the caliper mount).

if it is the older style, yes you do have to disassemble the hub assembly. that is the only way to get the hub/rotor off. there should be a big nut or two lock nuts you have to remove to get the rest off. i am pretty sure in 97 they still didn`t have the front brake set up like what was posted by bush....but i may be wrong....

Yep, your wheel bearings go in the hub, better have him pick up some new seals too, might go to the big Autozone and rent a socket for your axle nut, if not, NAPA probably has the one you need instock to sell.

Just finished the job had to remove the spindle nuts and and seperate the hub from the rotor, by knocking out the wheel studs. it wasent as bad as I was thinking the only 4x4 I have done was on a 80's chevy which is spring clip, lock ring, clip spring, or somthin like that but I appreciate all the input, got all new bearings, inner and outer, seals. now its time for some lunch.
