and as for the hubs, they are not dis-engaging - and seems this time they engaged too. it is going in tomorrow, they told me not to touch anything, he seems bent on the fact it is the relay up under the hood on the pass. side fender. all dash lites/gauges indicate its in 2x, but at full turn she binds up something fierce. that is how i noticed it the other day. i told him i had not touched the switch since it was in last (as we have had no snow for over a month now:doh: ) - which is why i said it seems to have engaged them too. i will find out tomorrow

There's more out of whack here than just the hubs... even if they were locked in, the transfer case should be in 2wd... so it could very well be the relay. On mine I can have the hubs locked in, and turn however I want and it won't bind unless I'm in 4wd... so in your case, it's more than just the hubs being commanded to engage.

I think I agree with your shop guy. Either a relay, dash switch, or wiring harness short. Look at the bright side... at least the seats still work!

For the batteries, I ran into the same problem. I replaced them and all was cool.
As for the trip odo resetting, etc, probably one of the batteries is far weaker than you thought, even though it is testing good. So that when it was connected it dropped the amperage enough and suddenly enough to reset the odo.

Might want to put it on a 3-4 hour cycle with an appliance timer. That electricity bill is going to old quick. Just a suggestion. ;tu

My original batts only lasted around 2 years.
I had mine in the 96' for ten years and they are still going strong although I transplanted them into my 75'.

his testing found them o.k. my testing found them not o.k. as i said, load test said o.k. too. that is the part I don't understand.

Did he disconnect them and test them individually? I would trust myself more than I would a "tech" as he is not the one that is going to be stranded along the road, he is the one that will benefit financially for you being stranded along the road.

crummy-
he is not a 'automobile' mechanic. he is a small equipment repair mechanic. he just has all the tools (such as the 'load' tester to test batteries) and he did it w/ them 'connected'
