Are expensive....... Two bills and some change. Sure spins over better now though. I think mine have been slowly dieing for the last few months. Starts have been getting harder and in the colder weather I was having to cycle the plugs two or three times and it still wanted to cough, sputter and die once or twice each cold start. The idle was inconsistent on a cold start as well, varying by as much as 500 rpms, would also experience "dead pedal" when cold. I was beginning to think that I was having PCM troubles and then it hit me, I hadnt ever changed my batts and have owned the truck for 4+ years already and dont know how old they were when I bought it.

You guys can get longer battery life by installing a Battery Desulphater. They can be found on eBay by searching "battery desulphater" and they are sold by Chubbydutchman. They cost about $100 but they will double your battery life or more. I have one on my PSD and my batteries are still strong.

Especially an 8000 lb auto!

I use a maint. charger that does the desulph'....when i THINK my
truck is gonna sit for several days (or more) i plug it in and it
maintains & desulphates the batteries.

Ive used these things on motorcycles that sit for MONTHS on end
w/out being ridden or started...they start EVERY TIME and i havent
bought a battery for any of our motorcycles in over 6yrs

exactly what does it do to prolong battery life dave?

they 1) maintain the charge (float charger) and 2) knock down
the sulfate that builds up (naturally) on the plates.

the sulfate that coats/builds up on the plates actually PREVENTS
charging & reduces the plates ablity to "create" charge/current.
