It does what Bush says, it desulphates the batteries, which causes them to loose the ability to keep a charge. This is one of those secrets that they don't tell you so they can sell batteries. Most of the heavy equipment operators/owners use them.

They work man im tellin' ya...i bought those battery mart chargers
when they were only 39 bucks...one of those chargers can charge
up to FOUR batteries.

cheap insurance...i had to buy a battery for our bmw touring bike...
weird size and even in a 3rd party supplier/brand the battery was
139 bucks (i still remember that burn).

just had to buy a chezzy little battery for a "learner" 150cc that im
restoring...50 bucks...and the bike is only 3yrs old...

ive got quick disconnect SOCKETS on every motorcycle car & truck
that we own...i dont have to open the hood to connect the chargers...

right sorry i confused yours w/ what i used (even after i found
"yours" on ebay).

my "offer" was for a duel use device, battery maintainer/charger
as well as desulph'-ation and to endorse what you were saying about
battery maintenance (sorry for the high jack)

I got a set of optima red tops this winter and they are supposed to be the cats ass from what I hear from a buddy of mine. They are supposed to last quite long and they don't corrode on the batt posts like regular batts do. I will have to test them out this summer with it hooked to the trailer and playing the stereo.

What kind did you go with Mike? Motorcraft I hope :)

Edit: I read another thread and what do you know :sweet
I went with Motorcraft batteries this time.
My original Motorcrafts are still going strong although I did put them in my 75' F250 a couple of years ago because I thought Crummy deserved a new set for Christmas.

Ive got some battery issues myself...probably has LOTS to do w/
the stereo load im pulling...I really think my alternator isnt keeping up
(well in fact i know it isnt...even at speed i can see the charging voltage
drop to the low 12.x volt charge)

i THINK im boiling my batteries....the TOPS of my batteries are "wet" a
little...

any thoughts ???

Im thinking im gonna have to 1st up grade the alternator and then
eventually replace my batteries...

this happened in my f150 gasser too...
