I just bought a 04 excursion with the 6.0 diesel and the water in fuel light comes on after 10 minutes. Also I'm getting real bad gas mileage: drove 70 miles and burned a little more than a quarter tank can anyone help?

when was the last time the truck was fully serviced? fuel filters, oil change, etc....as for the water light, you should drain the HFCM(should be located below drivers floor on the inside of the frame rail). has it been checked for codes?

The vehicle is being serviced at Carmax where i bought it. they said they will have to lower the fuel tank and flush the system they did find water in the seperator. But I'm not sure if that addresses the 6 miles to the gallon I'm getting.
Are they doing this as part of a warranty plan, or is it on you? Did Carmax give you a Carfax? Other than the water in fuel light; how's it run? Does it smoke?

yes i have 30 days where everything is covered. It runs good and does not smoke they told me today they were dropping the tank and flushing the system and replacing the filters. I hope this works with the mileage. Thanks for responding.

Water through the injectors will kill them very quickly. If you are having fuel mileage issues you may want to have that checked out.
