Howdy all,
Made the big jump from B20 to B100 today!!!!! I only drove 8 miles on the tank so no obvious difference noticed yet; other than not one of my hard earned pennies will be making its way into some foreign bank account!!! WOO HOO. Plus I have family members who are farmers in Kansas.
See ya',

Ask me about my bio-diesel(B100) source

do tell...

even though I cant tell much difference between the two, I just cant make myself voluntarily go back to anything less than b100!

Craig, Since your truck is 10+ years old, the dino diesel has left mineral deposits in your tanks and fuel lines. B-100 is a strong solvent and will clean out the deposits and deposit them on your fuel filter. This may occur after 1-3 tank fulls. When you notice a mpg loss or power loss it's time to change the fuel filter so KEEP ONE WITH YOU WITH THE TOOLS TO CHANGE IT. Once the system has been cleaned it will stay clean. B-100 has a higher flash point than dino diesel so your glow plugs will have to work harder to start the truck when cold. Cycling twice may be necessary depending on the morning ambient temps. B-100 will gel at +/- 40* depending on the foodstock source (what type of oil). Plugging in your truck at night will help start it when temps drop in the fall. During winter many blend in dino to help with starting.

Welcome aboard

Howdy hhey,
Thanks for the info. Even after 3 tank fulls of B20 I will still have the clogged filter problem? I have one spare and ordered 2 more just because I was going to B100. Changed the filters out twice after the B20 but there wasn't really anything on them. I am driving about 110 miles tomorrow and will have the one filter with me.
Have a good one,
Craig

happeetxn, I have been running B99 for about a month now and I have never found anything in my filters. I removed and replaced them two weeks ago and they looked brand new with no crud on the filters.

light reading
i have been reading over there all morning as part of some actual work at work
if all the engine manufacturers are shying away from anything higher than b5,
then where is the demand for b100 or b95 or b20 coming from, who says its OK to use in the engines??? is it just farm implement guys??
even detroit diesel, that makes tons of marine engines has changed their position on heavy marine fuels like DFM and heavier mix fuels, due to soot and less btu, oil dilution and injector issues.

some even mentioned military fuels and airports that use PREMIUM diesel
with higher sulphur , may lead to shorter oil change intervals due to dillution???

so all you guys running b100? i need some understanding here
thanks

Well I know New Holland has approved B20 as of 5/17/06. Everyone else is still lower. No real reason why that I know of. Other than big oil.

I've noticed less soot in my oil and so has my supplier in his Peterbilt. They've sold 3000+ gallons to several farmers that don't care what the manufacturers say. Some have ordered then cancelled becuase of other farmer talking bio down.

my take on the situation is this - the general public wants this fuel and is not just asking but demanding biodiesel to the point that homebrewing is happening in garages around the world. Contrast that with petroleum fuels; I've never heard of anyone brewing petro-diesel or gasoline in their garage. This leads to a total lack of any quality control.

Standards have been established but it is entirely impossible to ever police them and ensure that fuel people use meets them. Manufacturers are simply not going to accept responsibility for their products' failures if they are being run with bathtub fuel made by straining it through your wife's old pantyhose from the grease you scraped off your Jennaire.

The demand will continue to grow but unless homebrewing is outlawed (perish the thought) I seriously doubt we will ever see a manufacturer say, ok, we'll approve b100 and cover breakdowns under warranty. This is why you see so many posts about "will biodiesel void my warranty?". If you look over the biodiesel community websites you will notice the vast majority of users are driving 20 year old cars and trucks or ones that are now completely out of their warranty period. It is the brave soul willing to run b100 in their brand new $50,000 powerstroke. He is a rare breed.
