i do not run a pto, nor do i pull a camper. i do leave my truck running when i am loading or unloading cars that i haul. would an AIC benefit me? and if you could, tell what an AIC really does. i have seen several of them on this site that owners have, but i really don't know anything about them.

The AIC allows you to control the idle setting when you are parked. That's basically it. You do this for a few reasons;

"RPM Control", You can control the idle, (between 1200 to 2500 rpm), it helps keep the EGT's up above 300 degrees when it is very cold, (which below that is supposed to be bad, depends on who you talk to).

"Charge Protection" This monitors the draw on the batteries and controls the idle to maintain the charge as required. This is for using high draw accessories, like winches, auxillary lighting, Inverters, etc.... So you will not drain the batteries.

"PTO Control" This electronically actuates a 12v PTO solenoid, (if so equipped), if you have a pto device on your truck.

And for some, it is another electronic device with a lit up buttons and a RPM guage to add to their truck. (Kinda like in a fighter) Looks very cool at nightwith the other guages. :D

Hope it helps.

thanks barrett. you explained it very well. a few of the descriptions you gave was what i was thinking it would be used for. i do run a wench on my trailer to pull cars on that do not run, but it doesn't take very long. it gets cold in NE AL at times during the winter, but not like other parts of the country.

And i didn't want to say it, but i did think about it just being another great add-on with pertty lights to glow at night.

ok then, if i wanted to get one, where and how much? does it have to be a "ford" oem product?

Keep an eye on Ebay, you can always find one there. There are a few aftermarket things ive seen, but get the original. If I see one, I'll get you the link. There is one there now, but it is an older one and does not have the PTO option, (1 more button, 1 more light). I'll keep my eyes peeled!

I have one for sale and it is a Ford Factory unit. It comes with the mounting bracket, owners manual and wiring. You pay shipping and I'll send it to you for $175.

Thanks

Once you have one, you won't want to be without it.
If nothing else, it's nice in the summer to idle up to 1200 in the parking lot to keep the A/C going (especially if yours whistles like mine).:sweet
And if yours runs a little funny on cold start, you can rev er up, and she smooths out and warms up quicker.
