Whats the best fix for the turbo surge. "ATS w/WW" vs "ATS" vs "WW". I've heard the wicked wheel hurts the overall performance and does not completely cure the surge....but does it cure it enough that I wont have to worry about turbo failure? I'd rather spend $75 for a fix rather than $475.

There's a decent write-up on the Diesel Site website FAQ. It's his (Bob's) opinion, but he lays it out pretty well. The answer to your question probably depends on how hard you are using your engine? :dunno

I don't think the turbine wheel has much to do with turbo "failure"; but maybe I don't understand the side effects of serious surge (which I've never encountered). I've had the WW in on a rebuilt turbo for a year now; the failure was on account of failed sealing around the EBV that had been gutted, and resultant bearing failure. I bought a rebuilt turbo with WW already installed. The WW is noisier (sounds cooler) and I did not notice any reduction in performance but didn't have gauges at the time to back it up w/any numbers. Just felt "better"...Of course, I upgraded boots which might have cured other problems I was having!!!

I don't know anything about the ATS but the WW fixed the surge on the 01 I had. It surged bad after I installed a tuner. It was so bad you couldn't stand to stay in the throttle because of the sound and possible damage to turbo. Might of lost a lb. or 2 of boost but was cheap and simple fix. Made over 310hp to the wheels on B-20 with stock injectors on a 120hp setting. Trucks still around with 250k on original turbo. (WW at 160k)

Thanks guys. I'm thinking of just going with the wicked wheel just because of the $$$ and it seems from what I've hear it will do the job. I don't guess a pound or 2 will kill me lol.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I added the TurboMaster Wastegate controller. That along with the new boots, and I am not losing any boost according to my boost gauge, anyhow. But like I said I didn't have it gauged before the change for a real comparison.

There ya go ;tu

For what Little.. faster spool up you get. (Not More Boost.. [supposedly] Faster boost) the $$$ don't add up.... for a Daily Driver.

Whats a turbomaster wastegate controller??.....keep boost in longer?

You can adjust it for maximum boost level by screwing a nut along a thread to adjust the mass that counteracts the wastegate actuator from opening. Then run it wot and see what boost you get, and keep adjusting until you can get maximum. Can also use w/o gauges (I have some pix of it in my photo gallery from when I installed) That with the WW seems to make for a spool-up that is ok for me, and I "feel" like it is as fast if not faster than the stock wheel.:dunno Definitely the cheaper route!
