Our 24 year old daughter moved back home. She's not pitching in for rent or anything else for that matter. I'm not real happy about it, but she moved back home after breaking up with the A-HOLE boyfriend she used to have. It took over a year of everybody in the family and all her friends trying to convince her what an intolerable jerk he was. Once she broke up with him, she finally saw the light.
So bad news, I can't write her off on taxes because of her age.
Good news, the jerk is gone.

Used to be if you are paying over 50% support then that's a dependent isn't it ?????
and u could count a % of the house, food, fuel, etc....
I'd look into it
She's about my age... Is she cute?Tail_Gunner said:I'm in a different boat, I've got a "dependent" that I can't claim.

That is an interesting question. Are your parents still employed or have substantial income? Do you provide for more than half of their welfare? If they are not employed, have substantial interest income, they are probably exempt from taxation and you MAY be able to claim them. If you provide for more than half of their welfare I THINK you may have something there. Check with your tax advisor. Be prepared to DOCUMENT your expenditures if you choose to deduct your parents. You are providing housing, some utilities, auto insurance, and some food. They will not be able to take a personal deduction on any return they would be liable to file for any taxes they may owe if you do this. (that's why I ask if they are working or have substantial interest income).94f450sd said:can i claim my parents?i pay thier cellphone bills, mortgage car insurance and food when needed.wonder if i canusethier interest on the mortgage since i pay for it.
