Do tell, Bush. Some of us have over 230,000 without a functioning EGR. And still running the original turbo. On the original engine. Whats the downside?
I agree it "should" work. More often than not it doesn't. There are as many posts on these boards about egr problems than anything else. There have been a multitude of posts about how to field strip and clean the things. I have even read about owners carrying a spare, or having 1 connected to the plug, but just laying in the engine bay so it couldn't clog. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the longevity of these engines could be affected by the egr. I realize its part of an emissions system, but I can't wrap my arms around how pumping spent gases back into a fresh fuel / air charge is helpful. Or good for the turbo. Not to mention the soot thats heading back to the oil. No thanks.
