I have an 04 f-250 that has just been killing my wallet. This is the last straw for this truck before I get another one and try again.

I've blown my oil cooler/egr for the 3rd time (milky coolant, won't run long without over-heating, some white smoke).

My question is what is the cheapest way to fix this problem? Elitedieseleng.com has a couple EGR delete kits. One is a block off plate for like $35. Will this work in blocking the EGR so I wouldn't have to buy a new one or would I have to buy a kit still? I don't care if the EGR is there, I just want to get rid of it and block it off.

Also, where is the best place people have found to get an oil cooler? Can you get just the cooler or do you need to get all the plumbing as well?

Also, how hard is it to install? Any links to walk-throughs? I've tinkered with gas engines almost all my adult life but never tackled my diesel...all them wires and parts kinda scare me lol.

Thanks guys. I'm in the Marine Corps so our pay sucks and being married, I'm on a really tight budget with our crappy pay (and not much internet time otherwise I'd search for a couple hours and probably answer my own questions...my bad guys)

Thanks again

I'm pretty sure I blew the EGR cooler first and then the oil cooler followed suit. There is a milky oil/coolant mixture in my resorvoir and the truck overheats like crazy. Its the same thing that happened last time I blew that stuff up.

I'll check into that site and see about getting the kit.

Thanks

Can I just replace the oil cooler itself or do other components need to be replaced as well?

I just bought my truck 2 days ago, and while serviceing the fluids stuck my finger in the antifreeze resevoir and milky stuff(pulled a strem of it out on my finger) was in there. I panicked and was like great I got screwed. I found a nice kit on liberatorperformance.net. How hard is it to install a egr delete kit? Thank you

****, its not fun! From what i've read and been told, you have to pull the upper intake manifold off, and the turbo if you have the bigger manifolds. Doesn't sound like something I have the time or the tools to do anymore. I have a guy down here doing it for $500 (plus parts). He says its about an 8 hr job.

Best of luck to you.

going to need some luck, ordered the egr delete kit today and was informed oil in radiator is the oil cooler. Thought I was getting a good deal when I traded my gas chevy for this truck starting to thing otherwise.

Now you know why it was traded in... I have heard this type of story 15 times, at least. Sorry to hear this...

Not to hijack thje thread, but what's the deal with putting on an EGR delete kit and the check engine light(s)? I can totally see the vailue in tossing $350 on a complete delete kit, but if I have to toss another $500 at it for an SCT tuner that I'll only use to clear the codes, it's not looking too cost effective... Anyone have a similar scenerio?
