I bought this generator in 1999:

In later '99, I called Lincoln Electric and asked if this generator would power this welder:

The answer from the very nice and knowledgeable L-E tech guy:

Yes.

The only thing I take issue with for the welder you're thinking of is this: "Large easy to set knobs provide 5-position adjustable tap voltage control and continuous full-range control of wire feed speed."

My SP-175Plus has this: "Continuous full-range adjustment of voltage and wire feed speed allows for fine-tuning of the arc and precise control of arc energy, or heat input."

I'll never have a tapped welder again (I've got three welders total).

Good luck.

That is a 6000 watt generator, and the welder appears to be about a 3500 watt welder. The only reason that you would need a generator that big is for the 240 volt outlet.

I was looking more at the amps available and the max the welder can pull. both were 21-ish for a 240volt application.

thanks

Which is what you need to run -175 class machines.
