Alt on its way out

My truck is only putting out 13.1 V the bats died on it 2 weeks ago and just again. What do you guys think?

13.1 volts is still charging............my guess is your bats are toast.

Cold weather and 3yr old factory batterys = No Start.

That could be to, The eye is now red, Its on the charger now see if it changes and maby get it load tested.

Same thing just happened to me. Passenger side Battery was shot. Took to Schwab to get batteries checked and alternator. They replaced both batteries with some more powerful ones, but did not bother to check the alternator. Three days later things just kept dimming, one day to work. Just kept systematically losing electronics. Alternator was shot, and that is aparently, (sp) what toasted my battery.

I'd get the Alternator checked also.

FYI bad batterys will destroy a great alternator.

tested the alt its only putting out about 25% also it was only about half in the red.

I think you mean "can destroy" and not "will destroy".

After running for 30 min i touched the alt and burnt my hand, i have never seen a alt get that hot?

Sounds like what happened to my 02 when the alt went out (burnt toast) it was extremely hot and smelled of burnt wiring. Glad it was under warreny at the time, the dealer had me wait while they changed it out. Bad part about waiting for it to be finished I drove home with my new alt incased in a new 04 dually. Some how the chief financial officer of the house didn't see that as warrenty. She is finally getting over warrenty claim but I am not allowed to visit the dealer any more without her being there also.
