The reason SOME of the filter minders have cracked / eploded is the hot coolant overflowing out of the degas bottle onto the cold plastic filterminder...

(NOT that mine did that more than twice on my 03 !!!)

but in 50K miles on my 03 I changed it just before I decided to get the 05 Ex... and it looked VERY clean..

I suspect the sucking sound you are hearing is turbo boost draining down. I just changed my air filter for the first time at 44K, it looked like it would have gone another 44K. The filter minder will be closer to the filter when indicated to change.

That makes perfect sense given what the sound is like and I was hoping the minder would move closer to the filter as mine hasn't moved from the resting position at all and I was beginning to think the filter was restricted and the minder was telling me to change it out. However, I will probably go to a mileage based change out cycle instead of relying on the indicator.

Love all this blue oval stuff, its is so different from my GM; degasser bottle, turbo spool down noise, water drain HFCM, customer convenience wires and the list goes on. :D

Many thanks, good comments all

That doesn't sound right? Why would a sealed system (i think) have a hiss after the truck shuts down. I would be looking for leaks on the turbo outlet side, blue boots. Anyone else hear anything at shut down?

You're not hearing the air, you're actually hearing the turbine rotor slowing down to a stop. It makes the same noise while running, just that the engine makes so much noise you can't hear it. Perfectly normal.

I have to admit that it was a bit perplexing and my initial thoughts centred around the heater fan motor until I turned off the fan and then shut the truck down. Of course the noise was still there so curiousity got the better of me and I opened the hood to pinpoint the sound. Of course it sounded like it was coming from my air filter which led me to question if it was restricted with dirt which led to my original question etc.

It is pretty loud and has gotten some attention a couple of times when shutting down at stores etc. It's the sound of power and I like it. :sly
