Wondering if I should replace the stock turbo w/ something else now that my warranty is up. What brand? I just want a turbo that doesn't hang up,coke up,rust up. Quicker spoolup would be quite welcome! Any of you have experience or info. w/ aftermarket units that really work and aren't problematic (direct replacement)?

Unless you have disposable cash on your hands, and not many do in this economy, I wouldn't fool with it until your factory turbo fails. Anything mechanical, whether your factory turbo or an after-market, is subject to failure at some point. Why open a can of worms?
My '04 6.0 w/80k miles has never hinted at a turbo problem. I'll deal with it when that day comes.

I second what Ken says. You won't improve on what you have, but you can change your driving habits. Get on it a bit more and that should keep the turbo from getting fowled up. Mine has 100,000 miles and has not coked up on me. I do get in it when I can, like getting on the freeway.

Getting gauges as well in a pod arrangement on the A-pillar as well.
It's a bit pricey but I don't spend much on myself these days.

i didnt think the gtp38r was an option for the 6.0?
hivoltage on this forum upgraded to a diesel innovations turbo, and hated it. now he is going with dual setup from them last i heard. the single was terribly slow to build boost, and caused excessive smoke at low rpms due to the lack of boost.
performance is hard to beat when it comes to a variable geometry turbo, i wish i could get one for my truck.

I appreciate the response so far, thankyou. Some of you are lucky and haven't had problems w/ your vgt. Some of us are on our second or third new or refurbished unit,(vgt & egr). I spank it everyday I drive it to try and keep it free and clear, so that is not the problem. It may be because I live right on the coast and subject to the harse air. I was hoping someone knew of a better replacement. If our vgt's are in fact the best, I'll just have to learn to remove and clean myself. You know; sometimes I feel like the only guy that doesn't like the 03' whistle, but I've learned to live w/ it. Pedestrians are much safer hearing me coming from a block away by golly! Being in construction for 33 yrs., I don't hear it like most do; and it's funny sometimes to see peoples heads snap back and figure out where the jet noise is coming from.
