nagging hi-frequency vibration for the last 20,000 or so..
been trying to pay off debt so not a lot of jingle left over for "non-essential" (ie, will still get back & forth to work) repairs...

so as I got time...

changed all the u-joints.. AGAIN... no change

changed the carrier bearing... AGAIN.... no change

changed the slip yoke... thought I had it on that one.. until I hit an expansion joint in I-465 and viberated all the way down to Bloomington and back home...

pulled the driveline and sent it out for balancing... another step forward until I hit an expansion joint on I-94...

so FINALLY I pull the driveshaft again, and send it to another driveline shop... this time, he replaces all the companion flanges. So I buy the one for the rear diff as well...

while I have it off I check the pinion bearing...

so a set of pinion & carrier bearings, all the yokes and companion flanges, support bearing, balanced twice and three sets of U-joints and A THOUSAND AND THREE HUNDRED FREEKING DOLLARS later.. I finally have a truck that doesn't put your feet to sleep at 70 mph again..

remember the second sentence when I said I was "trying to pay down some debt?"

I want to say the trouble started in the rear companion flange..
that f'in thing never would hold a u-joint tight...

Hmmm. I have a slight vibration at around 70 when towing and I get a clunking when I turn while towing also. Is this what is going on my truck? How much for just the carrier and pinion repair?

for me to do it in my shop?
$1300.

I got about $600 invested in the driveshaft and a lot of my own labor..

I was thinking that, but I just dropped $9,000 on a tractor, so I'm not exactly cash flush...
