Did you realize that the A/C compressor is switched
ON when you have the "bi-level" (top AND floor)
vents selected ?

The A/C compressor is NOT switched on when in
either the TOP OR FLOOR modes alone.

so now that ive shared something i discovered (and confirmed
w/ my autoengineuity software) on my 2004 im wondering
if someone can tell me something...

wheres the DOOR for the FRESH AIR/Recirculate (max a/c)...
in the summer im thinking i might want to select "bi-level" (since
the compressor runs) but close the fresh air door (to avoid some
outside odor/fumes)....

Yeap the compressor does cycle when in Bi-Level and has probably done so for the past 15 years or better (at least in my trucks) but draws in outside air only which can get nasty from the out of tune gassers on the road.

Probably would require some type of vacuum switch of sorts to close the interior blendoor but thats just a first thought.

yeah i figure ill rig up some vacuum switch once i find the DOOR, was hopeful
someone might be able to point me in the right direction before i crawled up
under the dash.

i find it interesting they have TWO fresh air, w/ A/C, settings...personally
id be happier if i could control the recirc/fresh air door independantly...

in the spring and fall if found that the A/C can be too cold (w/out some
heat mixed in)...but the only setting where we can mix in some amount
of heat is where i MUST have fresh air...

I was just noticing that in my truck also, except I believe the only time my A/C pump doesnt kick on is when I only have the VENTS mode on, every other mode the pump kicks on

BP,would you know if the 6.0L engine cooling system has a vacuum actuated coolant shutoff valve that closes the flow of coolant to the heater core?

If it does I have the quick fix to permit the MAX AC to allow heat to blend.

CHP...there is a VACUUM actuated coolant shutoff on my 04 its on
the passengerside firewall in the engine bay (follow the heater
hoses that go THRU the firewall on the passenger side)

its my understanding that either some ModYrs didnt have such a valve
*OR* they didnt close completely and so even in MAX A/C & A/C mode
you were STILL gettting some hot water circulation (and there fore reduced
efficancy of the A/C).

theres an aftermarket fix avail from dieselsite (i got my coolant filtration
from 'em...great service)... click HERE -> DIESELSITE.com COOLANT VALVE

BP,if your coolant shutoff valve is similar in design to the ones that came factory on the Excursions you should be able to carefully remove the vacuum line from the valve and plug the rubber end of the vacuum line with metal dowel or bolt, but make sure it seals 100% otherwise you'll only get air from the defroster vents which we've all seen in threads over the years:D

Doing this mod will permit coolant thru the heater core while having your Air in MAX AC setting so you can have both heat and cold while in air recirculate:sweet

When heat is not needed for the summer plug the vacuum line back into the coolant shutoff valve.

I think the hose is white for the max AC/ recirc valve.

I was just looking at this last night. How much of a pain would it be to install the auto temp control? other than adding 2 sensors and the blower speed control, I don't think it would be that bad. Anybody have input on that for an 06?
