Not to get into a pissing contest with anyone, but I use 16 quarts, also.

I fill my truck until it hits the top of the full line. Truck is cold and I let it drain for a couple min. Generally when I do an oil change, I'm not in a hurry.

ok...there COULD be something wrong w/ your dipstick (shorter than
everone elses) ?

but the mfg specs say the engine (on ASSEMBLY) only holds 15 quarts
and the HPOP holds about a quart (and it doesnt get drained unless its
pulled off the motor)...

Part of the difference is that I (and many others) only fill the 6.0 eng oil level HALFWAY between full and add. There have been numerous problems with romping/ throttle surge that was traced back to the oil level being too full.

Our truck has the STOCK oil pan, and when I change the oil, one quart is left in the hpop, so if I put 15 quarts back in, it would over fill the engine by one quart, so when I change oil, I add 14 quarts to fill it up. If you have a special aftermarket oil pan, you might need to add 17 quarts to fill it.

i dont completely agree here...if i put 15quarts in MINE it reads OVER
the full mark. I cant imagine how far up the dip stick 17quarts would read.

I think we can agree that you don't want to overfill the 6.0, it can cause problems. I don't measure the exact amount of oil I put in anymore, being I'm pouring out of gallon jugs, I just know I want it to be BELOW the full line when I'm done.
And yes, 16 or 17 quarts is going to be WAY overfull :D
