I was wondering which motor is better suited for towing an RV?? Or is it that this is just the new engine and they dont make a 7.3 anymore for the superduties??

Better is a matter of personal experience and opinion.

The 7.3L engine was dropped in mid year 2003 where the 6.0L took over thru SuperDuty year 2007.

Both will work. It's a matter of preference.

I would avoid the 03-04 6.0 engines as they had bugs in them.

I would'nt say avoid the 03-04 just don't pay much for an 03-04 6.0. If your fine with leaving it stock or damn close to it, I like my 03 6.0 better stock not gonna push it. I drive them both everyday. The 7.3 is out there and proven to be very reliable for many many many miles.

Either engine is quite capable of towing. Both have pros and cons about them and most likely almost everyone on here has a different opinion about them both. In my opinion the 7.3L is a bullet proof engine with an anchor for a transmission. The the 6.0L can make way better hp but is a little sketchy in some areas when you start adding the ponies but their tranny is a much better set up with one more gear under your ass.

Thanks for saying somthin about trannies too. I guess there are some gearing differences in the early 6.0 tranny and they can go also we had our 03 6.0 just go through a trans at 130,000 which is'nt that bad.

more HP from a stock 6.0...approach w/ caution the 03's and
any 04 built before about september (04).

those early units had wire harness chaffing / grounding issues
that were tough to figure out...but easy enough to remedy.

my 04 is problem free.

the weakest link on the 7.3s is probably the autotrans.
the 6.0 auto trans is rock solid.

on the 03/04 make sure the reverse planetary pin TSB
has been completed.

on the 05-07s check to see if the HPOP tsb has been
performed.

a STOCK 6.0 runs as good as a flip-chip'd or download tuned 7.3...

My stock 4R100 tranny went for about 160K of almost all towing. When it went, I got a BTS tranny.

I might be going out on a limb a bit here, but when it comes to toughness, I'll put a BTS 4R100 tranny up against the 6.0 auto tranny any day of the week.

The BTS is awesome, but it can't be compared to a stock 5R110, stock tranny to stock tranny the 5R110 is the superior transmission. I'd put a BTS 5R110 (once theire available) up against a BTS 4R100 any day of the week.

A BTS 4R100 will win vs. most any stock light truck tranny, including the Allison in the GM pickups
